EAST LANSING— For the third time in a week, Michigan State and head coach Mel Tucker have gained a commitment for the 2022 recruiting class.

On Saturday evening, three-star tight end Michael Masunas became the eighth overall 2022 commit. Masunas, a Chandler, Arizona, native, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 23 overall recruit in Arizona and the No. 77 tight end prospect within the 2022 recruiting pool.

In addition to being offered by MSU, he held offers from several Power Five schools including Utah, Arizona, Tennessee, Maryland and Florida State. He was also offered by four Mountain West schools in San Diego State, UNLV, New Mexico and Air Force.

Masunas, who currently plays for Hamilton High School, is the teammate of four-star quarterback and MSU recruit Nicco Marchiol. He is set to make his decision on June 21 at 3 p.m.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Masunas is the third commitment since last Saturday after Georgia safety Quavian Carter and Colorado offensive lineman Braden Miller.

MSU’s current 2022 recruiting class is rated as the No. 31 class in the nation and the No. 6 class by 247Sports.
