EAST LANSING— On Tuesday afternoon, Michigan State infielder Bailey Peterson was named as the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week after going 6-for-14 with eight RBI’s and three home runs in the Spartans’ weekend series against Rutgers. He was previously named to the Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week list on Monday.

The award is the fourth conference honor for an MSU player this season. Sophomore outfielder Zaid Walker was named as the Big Ten Player of the Week for the week of March 10, pitcher Nick Powers received Co-Freshman of the Week honors on March 30 and senior pitcher Sam Benschoter received the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week award on April 27.

In MSU’s 14-8 road victory over the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, Peterson went 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI’s. The seven RBI’s are tied for the most by any Big Ten player in one game this season; he is also the first Spartan since Brandon Hughes in 2017 to knock in seven runs in one game.

On the season, Peterson is batting .266 with 25 hits, six home runs (a team high) and 14 RBI’s.

Behind a strong offensive output that saw MSU score 34 runs in three games against the Scarlet Knights, the Spartans took two out of three games and improved to 17-24 on the season. MSU will be looking to improve their regular season record when they host Iowa this weekend in the final series of the regular season.
