EAST LANSING– Michigan State, for its second match of the Kathy DeBoer Invitational, hosted Syracuse.
MSU won the match 3-0. The win marked head coach Leah Johnson’s 200th career win.
In the first set, the Orange struggled to keep up with the fast-paced rallies. MSU took the set 25-12.
Freshman outside hitter Taylah Holdem was a prominent player and led the set with six kills.
Syracuse continued to trail behind MSU in the second set. MSU won the set 25-13.
Junior outside hitter Aliyah Moore made her season debut on the court this season. She recorded two kills for the Spartans.
The third and final set started with Syracuse taking a 2-0 lead after two attack errors from MSU. This gave the Orange new energy, and they kept the Spartans working for it till both teams were 24-24.
MSU outlasted Syracuse and closed out the match with a kill from sophomore middle blocker Nil Okur for a 26-24 win.
Up next, the Spartans will host Delaware State on Sept. 3, with game time set for 1:00 p.m.
