Piscataway, N.J. — With a deafening Rutgers crowd screaming at the top of their lungs, Connor Cook proved why he is a potential first-round pick in the NFL Draft. On a third down and nine, the senior dropped a perfectly thrown ball into RJ Shelton’s hands – who on the receiving end made a spectacular catch.

Following Cook, LJ Scott’s burst of 16 yards on a third down and one, set up the game-winning touchdown. The fourth-ranked Spartans held onto a 31-24 win, and clinched their sixth victory of the 2015 campaign – remaining unbeaten.

Cook threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns, connecting to Macgarrett Kings Jr. and DeAnthony Arnett, while Scott tallied the other two TD’s.

It was the wideouts for Michigan State that proved to be difference. Aaron Burbridge hauled in nine receptions for 146 yards, and six different receivers were targeted by Cook, three of which notched at least 50 yards (Burbridge, Kings Jr., Shelton).

The Scarlet Knights gave Michigan State all they could handle in the bout. Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo had seven receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns – scoring all of Rutgers’ touchdowns in the affair.

Rutgers quarterback Chris Laviano went 15 of 24 with 208 yards and three TD’s, and running back Robert Martin had 13 carries for 61 yards on the ground.

Michigan State will travel to Ann Arbor next Saturday to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the highly-anticipated matchup between the two rivals. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
