We’re back with a few more of our favorite albums to listen to during the glorious season that is a Michigan autumn. Listen on your next walk through campus accompanied by the sound of crunching leaves beneath your feet.

Favorite Fall Album: Disintegration by The Cure
I’m going to go out on a limb and assume I’m not the only person around these parts that associates fall with school. I’m probably also not the only one who has gone to school for a frightening proportion of their waking life. In my case, it’s been an on-and-off thing since high school, but I tell you what, it never seems to leave my sleeping life alone. Because of its unrelenting persistence through youth, the “school experience” is prone to re-expose that old teenage confusion in its full force around this time of year.
Disintegration is arguably “the” teenage angst album (or at least one of the most prominent and popular examples), and in that way it seemed to be the obvious choice for me. And I am not ashamed to say I love it. It’s the perfect daydream for cold wind, dying leaves, and another-year-how-did-I-get-here-anyway introspection.
M83’s Saturdays = Youth was another option I considered (I mean, look at the album cover), but I decided to go with the “real thing.” Either way, the idea is the same. It’s about indulging that deep-down conviction that I should have gone to high school in the 80’s.

Favorite Fall Album: Dorothy by Dorothy
The cold puts many things to sleep until spring, but it wakes me up. The cold makes you realize how alive you truly are and so does this album; paired together the combination is legendary.
I dare you to listen to this album on your walk to or from class, work, or anywhere, without feeling like a complete badass. Try to listen to the husky, rock n’ roll voice of Dorothy and the amazing band that backs her up, without sauntering to the beat like you own the street. Do me a favor and listen to “Wicked Ones” first, it’s the song that made me fall in love with their sound.

Favorite Fall Album: Seven + Mary by Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Ah, fall. The season when the air loses most of its summer humidity and sales increase for anything that has the words “pumpkin spice” in its name. Fall also means the return to school, which is exciting and terrifying all at once – we’re all ready for some football, but not to give up our summer freedom.
That’s why Seven + Mary from Rainbow Kitten Surprise is my favorite fall album at the moment. It’s the perfect combination of melancholy and inspiration with just enough positivity to keep you smiling – at least until the album plays through and you’re forced back to reality. Some of my favorite tracks on the album are “All That and More (Sailboat)”, “First Class“, and “Shameful Company.”
This album, released in 2013, is a combination of the band’s first two EPs, Mary and Seven.
