MSU lands 2022 3-star safety Malik Spencer

EAST LANSING— On Monday afternoon, three-star safety Malik Spencer became the fifth 2022 commit for head coach Mel Tucker. Spencer, a Buford, Georgia, native was recruited heavily by new Spartan cornerbacks coach Travares Tillman as well as secondary coach Harlon Barnett.

Spencer is rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports. According to the site, he is rated as the No. 534 player in the country and the No. 50 overall prospect in Georgia.
In addition to MSU, Spencer held offers from schools such as Miami (FL), Arizona State, Auburn, Indiana, Michigan, USC, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, UCF and others.
Spencer started at linebacker for Buford High School and led them to a 13-1 record, as well as a state title, in 2020. He was also an All-Region selection for the Wolves.
Spencer, with a composite rating of 0.8739, is the highest-rated recruit in the 2022 class for Tucker; he is also the first secondary commit in the class. In addition, his commitment raised MSU’s overall recruiting ranking to No. 28 in the nation and No. 7 in the Big Ten.
