The Indie Mall Pop Wave | “Close To You” by Dayglow

Eddie Zentera, Writer/Volunteer

Dayglow has been a prominent artist to many indie pop listeners. He hasn’t released a project since his 2019 album Fuzzybrain, but “Close to You” is his jump back into the playlists of listeners everywhere.

This single opens with the bodacious vibes of a 1980s type synth and would serve any jazzercise routine properly. The simple modulated backtrack combined with the vocals of Sloan Stuble, the lead singer, produce a song that reminds me of what I imagine the hustle and bustle of a retro shopping center sounding like.

The vocals on this song give a gentle nod to the vocals of The Killers lead singer Brandon Flowers, with Stuble carrying a similar style throughout the song.

Dayglow is an artist that can brighten my dull day with his effortless use of a synth and guitar, and I hope he brings you this same feeling. As for an album, there hasn’t been any confirmation of a 2021 release, but I see this single as the traditional cue for an upcoming project.

Give this track a listen for some synth-spiration!
