EAST LANSING— On Wednesday, Michigan State University announced the latest COVID-19 results within the student-athlete community. 

Overall, 112 tests were administered from Dec. 17-29 on both student-athletes and staff members. There were 78 student-athletes that were tested, and two came back with positive tests. None of the 34 staff members that were tested yielded positive results.

Michigan State Athletics has conducted at least 3,427 COVID-19 clinical PCR tests on student-athletes and staff since the start of June. 

There have been over 580 tests on athletic department staff members since the testing program began in June; 14 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.  Over 2,800 tests have been administered on student-athletes since that time; 178 student-athletes have tested positive. 

Student-athletes who participate in men’s and women’s basketball, hockey, volleyball and wrestling are currently taking part in the Big Ten’s daily antigen testing program. 

Other sports, such as swimming and diving and gymnastics, are being tested during scheduled testing sessions each week. 

The student-athletes that test positive will have daily check-ins with the athletic training staff and will remain in isolation. In order for the individuals who tested positive to return to any level of workout, they are required to test negative for COVID-19 and receive physician approval.
