The race toward a safe, successful and sufficient COVID-19 vaccine has hastened for the past two weeks, and the dash to the finish line doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
On Nov. 9, Pfizer released a statement saying its vaccine showed to be more than 90% effective in its first interim analysis of a Phase 3 study. A week later, Moderna said its vaccine was 94.5% effective. On Nov. 20, Pfizer submitted an Emergency Use Authorization request to the Food and Drug Administration for its vaccine.
While this news is definitely promising, it is not absolute to whether we will receive a vaccine in the next couple of weeks. Only time will tell.
Michigan Board of State Canvassers voted to certify the Nov. 3 general election results after listening to numerous public comments during the Monday meeting, confirming president-elect Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump by more than 150,000 votes.
Democrat Julie Matuzak proposed the motion and, it passed with 3-0 votes. Republican Norman Shinkle abstained from voting.
More than 26,000 viewers watched the livestream, as board members heard from election officials, legislators, attorneys, observers and voters themselves, anxiously anticipating the board’s decision.
Just in time for Michigan State men’s basketball game Wednesday versus Eastern Michigan, Head Coach Tom Izzo returned to his office Monday.
The school announced on Monday afternoon that after testing positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 9, Izzo returned to practice over the weekend in person after 11 days of self-isolation.
In a statement Izzo thanked the medical staff and doctors at Michigan State who have helped him during the last two weeks.
