Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced new COVID-19 restrictions at a press conference Sunday that included closing indoor dining at bars and restaurants, in-person learning for high schools, colleges and universities, and other indoor recreational activities starting Wednesday Nov. 18 and lasting for three weeks.

The orders come alongside skyrocketing increases in positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

Workplaces are also closed under the order when work can be done from home, as well as theaters, stadium seating, bowling alleys, ice skating rinks, indoor water parks, bingo halls, casinos, arcades and group fitness classes.

Organized sports are also suspended under the order, with the exception of professional sports and some college sports.

Pedestrians walking by the Sparty statue were struck with confusion last week when they saw wooden scaffolding and blue silicone molds surrounding the mascot. Taking a few steps closer, they would have found a sign explaining this is a project from the Art, Art History and Design Department, not an attempt to alter Sparty.

The Critical Race Studies Artist-in-Residence is a program where artists from across the country get the opportunity to teach a class and work on a project that integrates them with the arts. This year’s artist is Young Joon Kwak, a sculptor from Los Angeles.

The general election results of Nov. 3 have been certified in Ingham County, according to a statement released Monday by the County Clerk.

The certification occurred amongst the Ingham County Board of Canvassers, which is comprised of two Democrats, two Republicans and their appointed assistants. Their job was to check the work of local election officials, inspectors and clerks to ensure that for every voter that cast a ballot, only one was tallied, and for every ballot cast, there was a voter tied on.
