Magic Johnson hit Michigan’s campaign trail to endorse presidential nominee Joe Biden along with other national Michigan Democrats at his alma mater Everett High School, Johnson joined Rep. Elissa Slotkin and U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters.
Johnson said he strongly believes that electing Biden and Kamala Harris is important to our country.
Johnson got involved in politics a long time ago because he knew how important it was to discuss policies as they are going to affect his life, his family’s lives and his friend’s lives. It’s important that people understand why it’s so important for all of them to vote.
Several bills were approved to move on to the Associated Students of Michigan State University General Assembly this past Thursday.
Bill 57-24 was approved by the Policy Committee unanimously. The bill moves to advocate for the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories against housing discrimination at both the state and federal levels.
At the state level, this resolves to advocate for the Michigan legislature to amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights act of 1976, which prohibits housing discrimination based on religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status or marital status, to include sexual orientation and gender identity
At the federal level, it moves to advocate that the United States Congress adopt the Fair and Equal Housing Act, which would amend the Fair Housing Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories against housing discrimination.
