NCAA tournament: Spartans to face Bradley as No. 2 seed in East Region
March 17, 2019
After emerging victorious over the Michigan Wolverines 65-60 in the championship game of the Big Ten tournament, Michigan State will move on to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Region. They will play No. 15-seed Bradley this upcoming Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.
The No. 1 seed in the East Region is the Duke Blue Devils, they own the spot as the top seed in the entire tournament. Michigan State is the lowest of the No. 2 seeds in the field.
This outcome comes as a surprise to many, as Michigan State was expected to be in the conversation for one of the four No. 1 seeds with a victory over the Wolverines. They would end of defeating their rival, but not even come close to one of the top seeds.
The top four seeds in the NCAA tournament will be Virginia, North Carolina and Gonzaga alongside Duke. Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee are the other two seeds.
Other reasons for the surprise seeding outcome include the amount of quadrant one wins the Spartans collected and their strength of schedule in the Big Ten.
