Jeremy Langford, Offense Lead MSU over Indiana

With a homecoming victory, the Michigan State Spartans improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in Big Ten play, defeating Indiana by a score of 42-28.

Michigan State continued its offensive progress from last week, attacking the Hoosiers’ defense with a balanced offensive scheme.Quarterback Connor Cook threw for 235 yards while the rushing game posted 238 yards, led by running back Jeremy Langford who had 109 yards and three touchdowns.

The Spartans had a rocky start, as they let up a 64-yard touchdown run to the speedster Tevin Coleman just 61 seconds into the game.

Luckily for Spartan nation, the offense came to play on Homecoming.

The rejuvenated Spartan offense then erupted in the second half, scoring three touchdowns, two of which were from Langford, catching an 11-yard pass from Connor Cook and rushing in from five yards with 37 seconds left in the half.  Langford continued to pace the offense, scoring two more rushing touchdowns.

Michigan State came into the game with the number 1 ranked defense in the country, and Indiana coach Kevin Wilson knew they needed some help securing the victory.

“We needed a pick six, we needed a blocked punt or a punt return, and we didn’t get it,” Wilson said.

In the end, it was Michigan State’s offense, not defense that paced them to another Big Ten victory and possession of the Old Brass Spittoon for another year.
