LANSING, Mich.—The Lansing Lugnuts began an eight-game home stand on July 24 at Cooley Law School Stadium, with a three game series against the Dayton Dragons. The Lugnuts took the series 2-1.
The biggest moment of the Dayton series came in game one of the series when center fielder, Dalton Pompey, came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth. Leading the Dragons, 1-0, with bases loaded, Pompey was able to blast a ball over the left field fence for a grand slam and his first homerun of the season.
The Lugnuts finished game one against the Dayton Dragons, 7-1, while game two went to Dayton, 8-0. Lansing clinched the series in game three, 6-3.
In the second series of the home stand, Lansing played the Bowling Green Hot Rods for a three game series.
Game three of the series against Bowling Green went into the bottom of the ninth tied, 5-5, when Chris Hawkins tripled on the first pitch of the inning.
With Hawkins on third, Kellen Sweeney hit a ground ball inside the third base plate, allowing Lansing to win in walk-off fashion.
The Lugnuts lost game two, 7-1, but won games one, 4-1, and three, 6-5.
The final series of the home stand in Lansing was against the South Bend Silverhawks in a four-game split series.
In game one, on July 30, South Bend was able to shut out Lansing, 8-0.
However, game two was postponed due to inclement weather and was made up as a double header in South Bend, Ind.
Game two went to South Bend in eight innings, 3-2. In game three, Lansing was able to tally a season high of 21-hits in the 12-6 win over South Bend.
The final game of the South Bend series is tonight at 7:05. The Lugnuts will then travel to visit the Fort Wayne Tincaps
Lansing returns to Cooley Law School Stadium Wednesday, Aug. 7 to play the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the West Michigan Whitecaps.
