Michigan State won their final exhibition game of the season, 83-45, against Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Monday.

Gary Harris led all scorers with 21 points. Keith Appling scored only three points in the game, but contributed 11 assists with no turnovers.

MSU shot lights out from behind the arc, finishing the game with almost 47 percent shooting from three-point range. Despite the score, Tom Izzo was displeased with the team’s ability to finish.

“That was 32 pretty doggone good minutes,” Izzo said.“The last eight minutes were ridiculous.”

State missed seven of their last nine shots. Izzo also commented on his team’s struggle from the free throw line, shooting 47.6 percent.

“If you want to talk to any of our players just come to the gym,” Izzo said, “ They’ll be in cots sleeping there shooting free throws.”

IUP played a zone defense for much of the game against the Spartans, a strategy that seemed to slow down the MSU offense early in the game.

“We haven’t worked much on the zone at all,” Izzo said. “I’ve got to take some of the blame for that.”

Red-shirt freshman Kenny Kaminski missed his second straight game due to not meeting expectations over the summer. Izzo said he would sit out the regular season home opener against McNeese State, but did not say whether or not he would be out against Kentucky.

The Spartans first regular season game is on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center.
