Girlpool’s newly released album, “What Chaos is Imaginary” (February 1, 2019) highlights the band’s evolution. They began by having a more acoustic and melancholic sound to one that is experimental with the elements of rock and folk. It is apparent that Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad have put in a lot of time and heart into this album. Their lyrics are contemplative and strive to reflect personal experiences that have had an impact on them. Each song is carefully articulate in displaying a meaningful sound and overall message that is comforting and reassuring to listen to. This album is the perfect pick-me-up for the February blues and can easily be listened to on repeat.
“Pretty” captures the confusing and empty feeling one feels after losing someone who once meant the whole world. Tividad describes an attachment to that person and how it continually feels like they never left. Her words elegantly give a voice to those who can’t describe that distant longing feeling that can’t be shaken.
