Challenging yourself and listening to new music that’s out of your comfort zone is an important aspect of being an active music listener. The post-punk band Xiu Xiu has never been afraid to be controversial and take their music in new and bold directions. Experimental and frenetic, “Pumpkin Attack on Mommy and Daddy” is a 5- minute whirlwind of rhythm and abstraction.
With verses like “How does a pig even walk back into the house/ with only one not broken leg? / pigs are gross / well, not you / you’re my pig.” You know you’re in for something a little wild.
Do I really know what any of this means? Not really. Is it interesting and unique? Absolutely.
