Ingrid Michaelson accomplishes a feat for the ages with “Time Machine” . Equally driven by a melodic piano and powerful drums, it encompasses all the regret and anger that bleed from a broken heart. Just like a time machine, the lyrics transport you back to the most haunting moments of any love:

The start, when, “you lit the fire.” By beginning in this succinct way, “Time Machine” conveys how intense the love was in an instant – there was no hesitation or kindling, just a spark and ignition.

The peak, just before the collapse. “Your love, it got me higher… But the higher you go, the further you will fall,” perfectly describes the bridge from infatuation to frustration. Michaelson fell deeper in love, like the slow ascent of a roller coaster, until suddenly her love turned and like every rider, she saw the downfall.

Finally, we see the wreckage, when every memory serves to justify the end.  This comes as no surprise, as the name comes from a chorus like, “If I had a time machine, I’d go back and I’d tell me, ‘run’.”

This folk artist has created her share of both heartrending ballads and pop hits. “Girls Chase Boys” and “The Way I Am” both made their way onto the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014 and 2007, respectively. In the past year, Michaelson has started in a number of new directions, starring in both a broadway production and comedy film. More recently, Michaelson began writing a new album based on the Netflix series Stranger Things.
