Calvin Harris’ newest album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1, is out now, and many are calling it the de facto album of the summer. Harris takes tropical beats and lets some of the biggest pop stars and rappers style their way over his smooth production. Big names like Frank Ocean, Quavo, Travis Scott, Pharrell Williams, etc. are featured, making this album a must-listen for big hip-hop fans as well as casual listeners. The songs sound a little copy-pasted from one to the next, but the variation of vocals makes for a nice listen in the summer heat.

“Cash Out” is the second cut on the album, featuring Schoolboy Q, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and D.R.A.M.. Q’s verse is smooth as butter, showcasing his versatility as a rapper as he steps outside of his usual, murky-toned hip-hop. PND takes on the hook with an eerily familiar vocal melody that may or may not be lifted from Katy Perry’s verse on the track “Feels” from the same album. D.R.A.M. takes on the outro with a soulful croon, letting loose his range over the dance-able bass line.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 is a fun album for party listening, beach chilling or barbecue grilling, and “Cash Out” definitely stands out among the rest.
