What is it?
This 46,000 square-foot museum is a work of art in itself. Designed by Pritzker Prize winning architect Zaha Hadid, the Eli and Edythe Broad Museum is home to contemporary cultures, ideas, and of course, art that is amplified and explored by Michigan State University.
What’s the deal with the owner?
Brian McLean is the manager of museum programs, so he gets to know the ins and the outs of what goes down at The Broad. He’s an advocate for bringing MSU’s community together through art and understands that the positioning of The Broad on campus gives the museum the resources and ability to collaborate with the faculty and the students.
Who’s played here?
The Broad sponsors multiple music performances and events including the Acoustic Lunch series in which people eat their lunches while listening to soothing acoustic tunes in collaboration with artists performing through Pump House Concerts. The museum also offers artist performances. Recently, Irish Performance artist, Amanda Coogan, performed at the museum and collaborated with students from MSU’s Theater Department.
What’s next?
The next big event for The Broad will be Greater Lansing Art Council’s Art Night Out. The museum will host a musical performance by DJ and performance artist, VNESSWOLFCHILD, as well as working with (SCENE) Metrospace in East Lansing where another Detroit-based DJ will perform. The Impact will be DJing at the museum from 5-7pm before the show begins at 8pm on Friday, December 2nd.
