This week, our DJ Spotlight falls onto Claire Postelli, host of New Music Dispatch and one of our Music Directors at the Impact. When she’s not listening and working with music, she studies Journalism and at the Residential College of Arts and Humanities.
1. What made you decide to join Impact and become a DJ?
Our Video Director, Meghan, convinced me over some dairy store ice-cream, pre-vegan days. It’s been the best decision of my college years so far.
2. What has been your best on air experience?
Although not on air, when our super rad graphic designer, Tony, got back to me with the new logo for New Music Dispatch, it was such a rewarding moment. It’s based off of old style tattoo-ing and puts a face to something I’ve been working really hard on (insert cliche plug to please check out the cool new logo).
3. How do you think working in radio will affect your future career and life experience?
It’s actually what I want to do w/ my life ! I plant to pair activism and radio — radio is an accessible platform that uses storytelling in a really innovative, awesome way.
4. What is your favorite part of the station?
The music.
5. If you could play an artist non-stop on the air, which would it be?
Oh, this is a hard one. As Music Director, I’m constantly trying to add more hip-hop and rap to the station. It’s a tie between Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino.
6. What is the best concert experience you have had? Why?
Ought, Pitchfork 2015. Bordering on punk, I expected a pretty violent crowd, which I totally dig ! But, the first few songs were all too quiet. Then, they played “Today More Than Any Other Day” and the crowd went wild. I was pushed into a group of people I know and love that were all at the show even though we showed up separately. The band ended the song saying “That was a really beautiful moment.”
Our next DJ Spotlight of the Week will be out on 10/10.
