What is it?
What was once the Mexicantown Fiesta Center is now a thriving music venue located in the heart of Southwest Detroit. The venue’s owner, Graeme Flegenheimer, is capitalizing on the fact that a lot of the underground music scene in Detroit is only accessible to those 18 and over (we’re looking at you, Marble Bar). Since their recent opening, the venue’s claim to fame is being “all ages, all the time,” making it all inclusive to those who are a fan of the alternative music scene.
What’s the deal with the owner?
Twenty-something Graeme Flegenheimer opened El Club in early May of 2016 with nothing but big aspirations for the space. Owner of the historic Church on York Performing Arts Space in Los Angeles, California, Flegenheimer is no stranger to the world of owning a music venue. It’s because of the venue’s seasoned owner that we have such high expectations for the future of El Club.
Who’s played here?
El Club’s concert calendar is pretty stacked, with upcoming shows from Twin Peaks, Car Seat Headrest, and Joyce Manor. As for the past, artists like Elvis Depressedly, Teen Suicide, Pity Sex, and PWR BTTM — just to name a few — have all graced their stage.

What’s in store for El Club?
In an interview with DBusiness, Flegenheimer alluded to his plans for the future of this up and coming venue. What now operates as a fully functional music venue, bar, and pizza kitchen could potentially become a DIY art space and host of an after school art and music program for local kids. Along with these plans, El Club is hoping to become a full-fledged restaurant sometime in the very near future. This might seem like a lot to ask from a local music venue, but it’s clear that Flegenheimer wants to keep music and artist performances at the core of El Club.
El Club is located on 4114 Vernor Hwy, Detroit, MI 48209 and you can find more information at www.elclubdetroit.com
