Chance The Rapper is talented and confident enough that his work speaks for him and allows others to take the spotlight. He offers that spotlight to a number of guests on his latest mixtape, but most exciting, in my opinion, is his inclusion of gospel choirs.
Gospel vocalists have been used in popular music for decades, to varying degrees of success, but on “Finish Line/Drown”, Chance allows T-Pain, Kirk Franklin, the Chicago Children’s Choir, and a host of other collaborators to shine and create something truly unique. The final result is 6 minutes of pure joyful listening.
