On the newest single from her live EP, Side by Side, Natalie Prass gives us a groovy spin on an old classic. Although it’s a cover of the 1965 hit from Simon and Garfunkel, Prass’ take on “Sound of Silence” is fresh and bold.
Acoustic fingerpicking is replaced by a speedy bassline, while Prass’ bombastic vocals take over for the wavering harmonies of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Even though it seems like it shouldn’t work, the upbeat instrumentals and morbid lyrics mesh together well, creating a refreshingly energetic track.
