EAST LANSING— Michigan State baseball is set to play Central Michigan in a non-conference bout on Wednesday.
The Spartans are looking to get back into the win column after a difficult weekend series against the Indiana Hoosiers.
“We need to compete a little bit better than we did today and I assure you I will do everything in my power to make sure that happens on Wednesday against Central Michigan, and then moving forward against Northwestern next weekend,” MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. said.
MSU started the season out strong but a challenging 4-8 start to conference play has brought the Spartans back down to a 17-13 record.
Spartans’ sophomore infielder Ryan Mckay has been a key hitter for MSU, batting .343 on the year with 16 RBIs.
The Chippewas have been on the wrong side of consecutive sweeps against MAC opponents, as they have slipped to 11-21 and 5-7 in conference play.
Against Kent State, CMU redshirt sophomore Jared Hansen held the Golden Flashes to one hit in three innings.
“That’s kind of been the story for us; we’ll have a great start, and we’ll have a big inning late or a big inning early and then it’s few and far between. We’ve got to challenge ourselves to get runners on every single inning,” Central Michigan head coach Jake Sabol said.
With the loss, the Chippewas are on a six-game losing streak in MAC play, with losses to the top two teams in the conference.
The Spartans return to Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium on Wednesday at 3:02 p.m. after the schedule change from Tuesday’s original contest.
