EAST LANSING – Michigan State baseball will head downtown to face off against the Lansing Lugnuts at Jackson Field for the 13th annual Crosstown Showdown.
The Spartans are coming off their Big Ten home series opener against Illinois where they played a doubleheader on Friday, losing 6-9 in game one and 3-10 in game two. The Spartans were able to get back on track in the final game, winning 14-4 in eight innings. Redshirt sophomore pitcher Tate Farquhar was credited with the win which brings his tally to two wins on the season.
Senior first baseman Sam Busch brought in seven RBIs over the weekend, bringing his total to 32 on the season.
Sophomore right fielder Parker Picot also had a solid weekend at the dish, recording seven hits and driving in four RBIs including three in the final game of the series that included an RBI double in the first inning as well as a two-RBI single in the fifth.
The Spartans will enter the exhibition game 17-10 on the season with a 4-5 conference record after dropping the series to Illinois.
For the Lugnuts, this will be the first home game as well as the first game of the year. After the game, the Lugnuts will head down to Fort Wayne for their first series on the year.
The team will be hosting a canned food drive to support the Southside Community Kitchen where if you bring canned food, you receive a five-dollar voucher to a future Lugnuts game during the season.
Michigan State will take on the Lugnuts on Tuesday April 1 at Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:02 p.m.
