EAST LANSING— The Michigan State men’s tennis team is in the midst of a five-match road stretch. On Sunday the Spartans will be in Lincoln Nebraska to take on the No. 49 Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Coming off a 4-3 win against the No. 68 Wisconsin Badgers, the Spartans will look to stay hot. Currently riding a four-match win streak, all against ITA-ranked teams, in which the Spartans have looked very strong. MSU is 6-5 so far in the spring season, being 3-0 in conference play and at the top of the Big Ten. The Spartans are 5-3 against ranked opponents, landing them with the No. 36 ranking.
The Spartan senior Max Sheldon has gotten to a 9-2 record in singles, which is good for best on the roster. Sheldon is one of four Spartans ranked, at No. 78 and is on a 6-match winning streak, along with a 2-0 record in Big Ten play.
Calvin Mueller, the Nebraska senior, has put together a nice spring so far with a 7-3 singles record and a 2-0 record in Big Ten play landing him with the No. 81 ranking.
The Huskers have had a great duo in junior Lars Johann and senior Anton Shepp, as the two have gone 6-2 however they have yet to play together in Big Ten action. The duo has made it to the No. 41 ranking.
MSU has the No. 53 ranked duo of redshirt sophomore Aristotelis Thanos and junior Ozan Baris, although they currently sit at a 3-4 record and 1-1 in the Big Ten. Thanos and Baris are both ranked top 20 nationally in singles and are looking to put it all together against the Huskers.
Nebraska owns a 9-4 record in the spring and are 2-1 in Big Ten play, tied fifth in the Big Ten. The Huskers are coming off a big 5-2 win against No. 17 Michigan and have won 5 of its last 6.
The match will start at 1 p.m. ET from the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, as the Spartans look to win a fifth match in a row.
