EAST LANSING- The Michigan State softball team heads to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to go up against Northwestern for a two-game series this Saturday and Sunday.
The Spartans look to continue their momentum from last weekend. MSU participated in the Miami tournament, and they went 3-1 by sweeping a two-game series against Northern Kentucky and splitting the two-game series against Miami University.
Last weekend, the senior catcher had a week hitting .714 along with six RBIs. The junior third baseman also had a good weekend, hitting .500.
Senior catcher Macy Lee has been racking so far this season by hitting .387, which is a team high, along with a .852 OPS and eight RBIs. Junior first baseman Britain Beshears has been seeing the ball well so far this season, leading the team in both OPS, hits and RBIs. As long as Lee and Beshears are hitting the way they have been this year, the Spartans will have a chance.
On the pitching side, freshman Jacey Schuler has been completely dealing. Schuler is the ace of the staff, leading the team in strikeouts, era and wins. Schuler has a 2.24 era, 46 strikeouts and five wins on the season. Senior Faith Guidry has been a solid number two pitcher so far. Guidry has an ERA of 4.67 along with 13 strikeouts.
Northwestern is coming in with a four-game winning streak with wins against Longwood, Louisville and Penn State.
Freshman Kaylie Avvisato is the star of the show for Northwestern. She is batting .367, with a .959 OPS along with nine RBIs. The Spartans will look to slow her down this weekend. Graduate student Lauren Boyd has been leading the Wildcats pitching staff.
