EAST LANSING— Michigan State will look to finish their weekend at home in the win column as Ball State comes into town Sunday afternoon.
MSU started off the weekend winning its previous six matches after dropping its first two matches of the season. Its most previous matchup came last weekend against Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Spartans cruised to a 7-0 victory with the team earning all six points from the singles matches alone and winning doubles later in the match.
Redshirt sophomore Hanna Tsitavets and junior Matilde Morais teamed up and won their doubles match 6-2. The two also won their singles matches as well. Tsitavets defeated Liberty’s Anika Lemus 6-4 and 6-3 where Morais defeated Yu-Yun Chen in a three-set thriller. Both will look to keep their winning ways going.
For Ball State, they started the season off with a loss, then went on to win three straight matches including wins against Eastern Illinois, Oakland, and Dayton. The team is scheduled to take on Youngstown State before their matchup against the Spartans.
Ball State’s number one pairing in doubles, graduate student Chloe Brown and freshman Alana Bristow, delivered a decisive win against Dayton, winning 6-2, to earn the point for the doubles matches for the Cardinals. Ball State went on to win the match 4-3.
The last time Ball State defeated the Spartans came in 2014 and they will look to pull off a stunning upset in East Lansing on Sunday.
MSU and Ball State are set to square off at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
