EAST LANSING—The Michigan State Spartans continue their weekend in Corpus Christi, Texas with their matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday night.
The Spartans look to continue their hot start to the season, starting the season with a 4-0 record, after two two-game sweeps against Western Michigan and Monmouth in Cary, North Carolina.
Senior outfielder Will Shannon leads the way for the Spartans on offense with a .400 batting average and .900 OPS along with two RBIs. Senior catcher Noah Bright has done damage in the Spartans’ lineup with a .333 batting average and .833 OPS along with two RBIs.
Junior infielder Randy Seymour and senior outfielder JT Sokolove lead the Spartans in hits with three each and doubles with one each. Sophomore outfielder Parker Picot leads the team with triples.
On the pitching side, the Spartans are led by junior pitchers Joseph Dzierwa and Nolan Higgins. They both had solid outings, throwing six shutout innings each. Dzierwa dominated on the mound, throwing 11 strikeouts and allowing one hit.
The Spartans will need a similar pitching performance if they want to continue their undefeated season. Higgins threw four strikeouts and allowed two hits.
Graduate student Tyler Horvath and sophomore Logan Pikur have been great out of the bullpen, each making two saves, which led the team, and both throwing three strikeouts.
For Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, it hasn’t been the best start for them. They are 0-4 after being swept by Kansas last weekend in Corpus Christi.
Senior infielder Cade Sanchez has gotten off to a blazing-hot start for the Islanders. Sanchez leads the team in batting average, OPS, hits and doubles. Sanchez is batting .429 with a 1.143 OPS along with six hits and three doubles.
The Islanders are led by senior pitcher Zach Garcia. Garcia has a 3.60 ERA with five innings pitched and three strikeouts.
