EAST LANSING— No. 11 Michigan State men’s basketball looks to continue to defend homecourt with Indiana coming into town on Tuesday night.
MSU recovered from its two-game skid in California on Saturday afternoon with a comeback win over Oregon, 86-74. The Ducks challenged the Spartans in the first half, but ultimately the Spartans adjusted and claimed the victory.
Freshman guard Jase Richardson led MSU with a career-high 29 points. Richardson recorded his first career start on Saturday as redshirt freshman guard Jeremy Fears Jr. was out for illness.
The adjustments made by the Spartans in the second half not only improved their scoring but also improved their ability to guard the Ducks. MSU held Oregon to 6-24 from the field and 0-8 from behind the arc in the second half compared to the 18-37 from the field and 10-19 allowed in the first half.
Saturday also marked MSU head coach Tom Izzo’s 353rd Big Ten win to tie former Indiana head coach Bob Knight for the winningest Big Ten head coach.
The Spartans and the Hoosiers have a long all-time series chronicle. Indiana leads the overall series 73-58 but is 22-41 when playing in East Lansing. Last season the two teams met only once in Bloomington which the Hoosiers took 65-64 on March 10, 2024.
Scouting Indiana
Indiana holds 14-10 overall on the season and 5-8 in B1G play. The Hoosiers are on a five-game losing streak currently, recently falling to now-No. 20 Michigan 70-67 on Saturday.
Junior forward Malik Reneau led Indiana against Michigan with 16 points. Reneau was followed by sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako with 15 points and senior guard Anthony Leal with 12 points.
The Hoosiers shot 41.7% from the field, 31.6% from behind the arc and 73.3% from the free throw line against the Wolverines. They also recorded 31 rebounds, 14 assists, seven turnovers, three steals and one block.
Redshirt senior center Oumar Ballo leads Indiana in points per game with 13.7. Mgbako follows with 13.3 points per game. Reneau and redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice also average in double figures with 12.3 points per game and 11.1 points per game respectively.
MSU and Indiana will face off on Tuesday with tip-off set for 9 p.m.
