EAST LANSING- Michigan State basketball will be back in action tonight at the Breslin Center as they face off against the Bowling Green Falcons from the Mid-American Conference.
The Spartans dropped their first game of the season on Tuesday, losing 77-69 to the No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks in the Champions Classic in Atlanta.
In what was a competitive game throughout most of the game, three-point shooting cost the Spartans a close loss in the end. MSU shot 12.5 percent from beyond the arc, shooting 3 for 24 from three-point range.
Three-point shooting has been a struggle for the Spartans through the first three games this season, much like last season. The Spartans have been getting good looks, the shots just haven’t been falling. MSU is hoping that the shots can start falling tonight against the Falcons.
Despite the offensive struggles against the Jayhawks, junior forward Jaxon Kohler and senior guard Jaden Akins have been impactful this season for MSU.
Kohler has recorded a double-double in the last two games for MSU and leads the team in scoring averaging 12.3 PPG. Akins has scored in double figures in two games and is shooting over 45 percent from the field.
The biggest storyline for the Spartans has been the emergence of Jase Richardson. The talented freshman guard and son of MSU great Jason Richardson has risen to the occasion through the first three games for MSU. Richardson is averaging 10 PPG and shooting over 64 percent from the field and beyond the arch.
Bowling Green enters this matchup with the Spartans with a 1-2 record on the season and is coming off a dominating 107-43 win over Division III Taylor.
Players to watch for the Falcons include junior guard Javontae Campbell who leads the teams in scoring averaging 18.7 PPG. Senior forward Marcus Johnson is another player to watch for the Falcons.
The Spartans will look to improve to 3-1 on the season with a win over the Falcons. Tipoff from the Breslin Center is set for 6 p.m.
