EAST LANSING– Michigan State hockey is set to host Notre Dame in a two-game weekend series at Munn Ice Arena starting Friday.
The Spartans are coming off a sweep against the Ohio State Buckeyes in their first series of Big Ten play. Beginning their title defense for the Big Ten regular season near the top of the standings.
Notre Dame is a non-traditional member of the Big Ten, exclusively for hockey. They have already played two conference series this season, facing off against Wisconsin and Michigan.
Notre Dame has struggled, splitting the series with Wisconsin and then getting swept by Michigan at Yost Ice Arena, losing the first game in overtime and a two-goal loss in game two.
MSU head coach Adam Nightingale has the Spartans rolling. They are currently on a five-game winning streak and have outscored opponents 26-12 this season.
Sophomore goaltender Trey Augustine has been great for MSU, in seven starts Augustine has a 1.57 GAA and a .941 save percentage. Augustine was recognized as the Big Ten Second Star of the Week for his performance against Ohio State.
The sophomore was voted as the best goalie in the conference by coaches in the preseason and will be in conversation for postseason honors.
The Spartans are currently 7-1 and ranked fourth in the USCHO.com poll and the Pairwise rankings.
Junior forward Isaac Howard is the leading point scorer for the Spartans with five goals and five assists. Junior forward Daniel Russell is the leading goalscorer and is also leading in plus-minus for MSU at plus-nine.
The Spartans have a chance to extend their win streak on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Munn Ice Arena.
