EAST LANSING- The Michigan State men’s soccer team will face-off against Rutgers in their final home game of the season at DeMartin Stadium on Sunday with the Big Ten tournament looming.
The Spartans are coming off a hard-fought 2-2 draw against the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Senior midfielder Sean Kerrigan and sophomore forward Richie Ludwig found the back of the net in the second half to earn MSU a point.
MSU enters this matchup with the Scarlet Knights in fourth place in the Big Ten with 14 points and a 4-3-2 conference record. When it comes to their place in the Big Ten tournament, the Spartans can clinch the No. 4 seed in the tournament with a win or draw against Rutgers.
Rutgers comes to East Lansing at the bottom of the Big Ten with seven points and a 2-6-1 conference record. The Scarlet Knights snapped their four-game losing streak after an impressive 3-1 win against the No. 10 ranked Maryland Terrapins.
Key players to watch for the Scarlet Knights include senior midfielder Curt Calov and junior forward Ian Abbey, Calov leads the Scarlet Knights in points with 12 and goals with five on the season. Abbey has recorded nine points, five assists, and two goals on the season.
The Spartans will face off against the Scarlet Knights before finding out their place in the Big Ten Tournament with the first round set to start on Nov. 7. First touch for MSU’s regular-season finale is set for 1 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.
