EAST LANSING– Junior forward Grace VanSlooten has appeared on the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watchlist, with the award being granted to the best small forwards in the nation.
VanSlooten is one of five other Big Ten names to make the list. Which includes Ohio State’s junior forward Cotie McMahon, UCLA’s grad student forward Angela Dugalic, Indiana’s junior guard Yarden Garzon, and Maryland’s redshirt junior forward Saylor Poffenbarger.
Before transferring to Michigan State, VanSlooten, a five-star prospect out of high school, averaged 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in two seasons at Oregon. She also hit at a 42.6 field goal percentage with the Ducks.
In her MSU debut in an exhibition against Wayne State, VanSlooten tied for the highest scorer of the game at 16 points and went 8-10 shooting. Defensively, she recorded two steals, two blocks, and five defensive rebounds.
MSU Head coach Robyn Fralick has also taken junior guard Emma Shumate, and senior guards Jocelyn Tate and Jaddan Simmons from the transfer portal. Along with VanSlooten, this MSU team has big expectations for its impact transfers.
VanSlooten and the Spartans will take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in their first regular season matchup on Tuesday Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
