EAST LANSING– Michigan State forward Tanner Kelly was named Big Ten Third Star of the Week for his performance against Canisius this past weekend.
On Friday, Kelly netted the first goal of the series to get the Spartans rolling. The senior was also credited with an assist on a later goal in the Michigan State 3-0 victory.
Then in game two, after a quiet first 20 minutes, Kelly got the Spartans on the board with his second goal of the weekend.
Kelly would get another assist on Saturday to cap off a four-point weekend, earning him all-conference honors.
Kelly is the fourth Spartan to earn Big Ten honors through the first month of the season. Spartans forwards Charlie Stramel, Isaac Howard and Daniel Russell have all been spotlighted for their play by the Big Ten.
The Spartans are a perfect 4-0 through their first two road series of the season and will have time to rest as they have an upcoming bye week.
Michigan State is now ranked No. 3 in the USCHO Poll, moving up one spot in the polls.
The Spartans begin Big Ten play against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Munn Ice Arena on Friday, Nov. 8.
