EAST LANSING– On Saturday night, two Michigan State Spartans won awards for their performances during a 32-20 win over Iowa in Spartan Stadium.
MSU sixth-year kicker Jonathan Kim and freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh earned Big Ten awards for their performances on Saturday.
Kim was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after setting a school record with six made field goals.
The Virginia native connected on six out of his seven kicks, including his longest kick of the season at 55 yards.
Kim’s six field goals broke the school record previously set by Paul Edinger in 1998 against Ohio State. Kim also tied the modern-day Big Ten record set by Michigan’s Jake Moody who scored six field goals against Indiana in 2018.
Kim is 15-of-16 on field goals this season and he ranks first in the Big Ten and is tied for second in the FBS in made field goals.
Marsh earned his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award this season, with his first coming out after a standout performance against Maryland in September. On Saturday, he tied his season high with eight receptions and recorded 113 receiving yards.
Marsh also had eight receptions during his career-best 194-yard performance against Maryland earning him his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week award.
The Detroit native is the first true freshman Spartan to have two 100-yard receiving games in his first season. Marsh leads the team in receiving yards with 433 and ranks second in catches with 24.
MSU will need Marsh and Kim’s strong performances to continue when the Spartans face Michigan next weekend in Ann Arbor. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m, Joe Dez and Oscar Henderson will have the call on Impact 89 FM live from The Big House.
