EAST LANSING– Michigan State center attacker Charlie Stramel was named Big Ten Third Star of the Week after his performance in the weekend series against the Boston College Eagles.
After a disappointing 3-0 loss on Friday, the Wisconsin transfer responded, scoring the first goal of the game on Saturday.
“We didn’t play the way we wanted to on Friday night,” Stramel said. “And I think the biggest thing was having a bounce back, getting on the board first.”
In the second period, the Minnesota Wild prospect scored the third Spartan goal of the game, with a net-front tip in, off defenseman David Gucciardi’s shot from the point.
“That’s something I pride in my game is being good at the net screen, always tipping pucks,” Stramel said.
The sophomore benefitted from Spartan head coach Adam Nightengale’s line switches getting paired with Isaac Howard and Gavin O’Connell who both assisted on Stramel’s first goal.
“It felt good, it was a great play by [Howard] there, I had the whole net to shoot and ended up putting it in,” Stramel said. “That starts with [O’Connell] making the play to [Howard] and [Howard] to me.”
Stramel is the third Spartan to be recognized for his play by the conference for his exceptional play. Forwards Isaac Howard and Daniel Russell were first and second stars last week for their contributions against Lake Superior State.
Stramel and the Spartans will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18, in an exhibition game against Windsor University (Ontario).
