EAST LANSING– No. 5 Michigan State Women’s Soccer has extended their best start in program history, staying undefeated through 14 games.
The Spartans headed west this week to take on the new additions to the Big Ten conference and will face Washington this afternoon.
Thursday night, the Spartans opened their West Coast play against Oregon. After a hard-fought 90 minutes, they would settle for a scoreless draw.
Michigan State is now the last remaining team in NCAA DI soccer to have not lost a game this season.
Washington is coming off a stellar 3-1 win, zipping past the Michigan Wolverines and extending their overall record to 7-4-2.
Senior forward Ioanna Papatheodorou currently leads the Huskies with 12 points, five points and two assists. Sophomore forward Samiah Shell is tied with Papatheodorou with five goals as well.
Papatheodorou and Shell were the lonesome goal-scorers in the recent match against Michigan.
The Spartans continue to push to keep their undefeated streak alive and will rely on graduate goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks in this afternoon’s match to face the Huskies quick-footed forwards.
Parks has posted six total shutouts on the season and has recorded 49 saves. She has only allowed nine goals to be scored against her, making her save percentage an incredible 0.845%.
Parks was named both the NCAA Player of The Week and the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week a couple of weeks ago following her dazzling performances in goal against Ohio State and Penn State.
The game will be aired on Big Ten Plus as first touch is set for 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
