EAST LANSING- After a close loss to Boston College in Chestnut Hill on Saturday, Michigan State travels back to Lansing to take on the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes.
Against Boston College, sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles threw 17-35 and 241 yards, but the story of the season and this game are his turnovers.
Chiles threw three interceptions which cost MSU the game, to seal it for Boston College, Chiles heaved a ball into double coverage which was picked off, ending the Spartan’s chance at success.
The Spartans had bright spots all over the field, as junior tight end Jack Velling racked up 77 yards on six receptions, being an anchor offensively for MSU.
With three core receivers out, redshirt freshman Iziah Johnson and Senior Montorie Foster Jr. must be consistent for Chiles during this game.
True freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh was ruled out against Boston College, by getting hit in the knee on a first-down completion against Maryland.
Marsh contributed heavily to the gritty road win, gaining 194 yards and a 77-yard touchdown catch to extend the Spartan lead.
Head coach Johnathan Smith plans to give an update on the Big Ten Freshman of the Week this Friday. Junior receiver Jaron Glover is returning for the Spartans due to injury, but the star-studded freshman Nick Marsh.
MSU’s defense has a tough task against them, playing one of the best offensive threats in the county. OSU’s junior running back Quinshon Judkins and senior wide receiver Emeka Egbuka will prove troublesome for MSU.
Judkins in his last game rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns against Marshall. Egbuka had 117 yards and one touchdown that night as well.
Senior running back TreVeyon Henderson rushed for two touchdowns on six carries for 76 yards. Henderson and Judkins complete the one-two punch running back room that hurts all defenses in the country.
MSU is not the only team with a star-studded freshman receiver, OSU’s freshman receiver Jerimiah Smith has shocked the world at 18 years old.
Smith has had at least one touchdown in every game this season, putting up one against Marshall for 53 yards.
Smith’s deep ball threat will create trouble for MSU’s cornerback room, with injuries all over the Spartan’s secondary.
Michigan State invites the Buckeyes to East Lansing for a late-night brawl. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm on Saturday, as Joe Dez and Oscar Henderson will have the call live from Spartan Stadium on WBDM Sports.
