EAST LANSING- The Gritty Tigers have done it again, going 5-1 in their last six games, only two wins away from clinching an AL Wild Card spot.
There is an energy at Comerica Park that cannot be described, and for the first time in a long while, Tigers fans have something to be excited about.
30-11 since August 11. Looking at this record with no prior knowledge, you would assume this stat belonged to teams like the Yankees, Phillies, or the Dodgers.
Well, you’d be wrong. It’s the Detroit Tigers.
The race for the AL Wild Card has been a rollercoaster, but as of right now, the only team standing between the Tigers and the playoffs is the Chicago White Sox, who tied an MLB record this year, for the most losses in one season (120).
Now, the White Sox did just sweep the Angels, and maybe they have finally woken up 120 losses later, just in time to rain on the Tigers parade.
However, this Tigers team has proven on many occasions that they don’t know what quitting is, and I don’t think they’re going to quit now with so much at stake.
MLB’s top pitching prospect Jackson Jobe made his major league debut last night against the Rays, where he recorded the final three outs, securing a Tigers win.
Jobe’s potential with Detroit seems bright, especially with Chris Fetter’s coaching and a steady bullpen surrounding him.
Skubal has continued to make his case for AL Cy Young, pitching through seven innings on Sep. 24 against the Rays, allowing only two hits with seven strikeouts.
The offense is performing well, doing everything they can to get on base and drive in runs.
The Tigers keep finding ways to come back and score when they’re down, they don’t crack under pressure and have shown a great sense of plate discipline over these past few games.
Confidence has been the main key to this insane run, and the Tigers are performing like a well-oiled machine.
They know they must keep winning to stay alive, but they play and act like they’ve been here before.
What we are witnessing now is something truly amazing, that this team could show up out of nowhere and have one of the greatest comebacks of all time.
I have a feeling that there is no stopping the momentum that the Tigers have right now, and I think they owe it to themselves to keep winning and finish the story.
Comerica Park is alive again, and the world is waiting for a Tigers postseason appearance.
