EAST LANSING- On Friday, Michigan State’s men’s soccer team goes to Los Angeles, California, to go up against the UCLA Bruins, which will be their first time playing each other as members of the Big Ten.
The Spartans go into the game 2-4-2 overall and a 1-1 record in Big Ten play. The Spartans look for some momentum after losing their last game to Penn State 2-1. If the Spartans win, they will improve their Big Ten record to above a 500 winning percentage.
This season, the Spartans have been led by junior midfielder Jonathan Stout, who not only leads the team in goals but points as well. Stout has scored a goal in two straight games and looks to carry that momentum into the matchup against UCLA. Sophomore forward Richie Ludwig has also done damage this season by scoring a goal and having two points.
Other Spartans to watch out for in this matchup are senior midfielder Sean Kerrigan, who has one goal so far for MSU this season, and senior midfielder Shion Soga, who has two assists on the season for the Spartans.
UCLA is coming in with a bit of momentum after beating Westmont 5-1 on Tuesday, improving their overall record to 4-2-3 and a Big Ten record of 1-1-1.
The Bruins are led by graduate student midfielder Edrey Caceres and junior forward Nikolai Rojel, who each have three goals and six points so far on the season. The Spartans will also need to watch out for graduate student midfielder Sveinn Hauksson, who has two goals so far on the season.
The Spartans look to improve their conference record to 2-1. Kickoff from Wallis Annenberg Stadium starts at 10 p.m. on Friday.
