EAST LANSING— Michigan State’s graduate goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks has been named the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time in her career.
Parks has played a huge role in the Spartan’s victories against Maryland and Nebraska but contributed the most in the recent contest against Penn State.
September 12, the Spartans kicked off Big Ten play on the road at Maryland. Parks recorded one save and allowed no goals in her 90 minutes of playing time. This marked her third shutout of the season and the Spartans walked away with a 5-0 win against the Terrapins.
On Thursday night, the Spartans defeated Nebraska 4-1 at home. Parks recorded one save and allowed one goal in all 90 minutes of her playing time.
On Sunday afternoon, the Spartans traveled to Happy Valley to take on the No. 9 Penn State. Parks recorded her fourth shutout of the season and had a massive career-high of 11 saves to put the Spartans 1-0 over the Nittany Lions.
So far this season, Parks maintains a goals-allowed average of just 0.75 and has racked up an impressive total of 31 saves.
No. 1 Michigan State will take on No. 11 Ohio State this Thursday, September 26th at 7 p.m. in Columbus.
