EAST LANSING- Fresh off an impressive 1-0 win against Washington to begin Big Ten Conference play, the Michigan State men’s soccer team will look to ride the momentum from the thrilling win into their first Big Ten road matchup of the season against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
In the home win against Washington, a Sports Center featured electrifying bicycle kick save by freshman defender Brandon Munson and a game winning goal by junior midfielder Jonathan Stout, the Spartans improved to 2-3-2 on the season heading into this matchup against the Nittany Lions.
This season, the Spartans have been led by Jonathan Stout. Stout leads the Spartans in goals with two on the season. The standout junior has also collected one assist and five points this season. Senior midfielder Sean Kerrigan has also contributed this season for MSU with one goal and two points.
Other players to keep an eye on this matchup for the Spartans include sophomore forward Richie Ludwig and freshman forward Mohamed Saad, who both have recorded goals this season for MSU.
After a crushing 5-0 loss on Tuesday at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Nittany Lions enter this matchup with a 2-5 record overall and a 0-2 record in the Big Ten.
Junior forward Christian Dionne has led the Nittany Lions this season with two goals, two assists, and six points. Other players to watch for Penn State include junior defender Matthew Henderson and sophomore midfielder Caden Grabfelder who are second in scoring for Penn State with two goals each.
