EAST LANSING- For the second time in her career, senior Nalani Iosia has been named Big Ten Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
The senior from Long Beach, California had herself a performance this past weekend at the Kathy DeBoer Invitational.
The Michigan State Spartans finished the tournament undefeated, and Iosia put up some impressive numbers defensively.
In Friday’s game against Western Kentucky, Iosia had an impressive 25 Digs, two less than her previous season high of 27 against Iowa. Iosia also racked up eight assists, leading to a Spartan victory.
In Saturday’s game against Marist, Iosia only had 13 Digs compared to her 25 the day prior, and racked up four Assists as well.
However, the Spartans remained undefeated and managed to sweep Marist in three sets.
In the last round of the invitational on Sunday, Michigan State would face Loyola Chicago, where Iosia put up 18 Digs and seven Assists.
Iosia was a huge factor in the success of MSU’s performance this past weekend, and her defensive ability helped the Spartans stay on top.
With Big Ten play approaching, and a current season record of 4-2, Iosia has more opportunities to showcase her defensive prowess.
Michigan State will take on Western Michigan at home this Wednesday, the game is slated for 6 p.m. at the Breslin Center.
