EAST LANSING– The Michigan State women’s soccer team, ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, continues season action at DeMartin Field today against Queens University of Charlotte.
This will be the first time the Royals and Spartans face off in women’s soccer.
The Royals are coming off a 2-0 win against Winthrop, with goals scored by sophomore Madeline Cheatham in the 5th minute and junior Sejla Podzic in the 60th minute, assisted by senior Girah Durant. This win advanced their record to 3-2-0 on the year.
The Spartans stay undefeated with a record of 3-0-2, forcing a draw (2-2) against Xavier. Those who scored during the outing was sophomore Bella Najera in the 76th minute and junior Maggie Illig in the 77th minute. Graduate student Justina Gaynor provided both assists for the Spartans.
They look to keep the undefeated streak alive as conference play quickly approaches.
Key players to watch for the Spartans in today’s game will be midfielder Gaynor and goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks. In the match against Xavier, Gaynor had a season-high 2 assists in the game, tying her record from the 2023 season against Iowa. Parks had a season-high of eight saves, close to her 2023 record of nine saves in the contest against Ohio State.
MSU fans will also celebrate Youth Soccer Night.
All youth soccer players who wear their soccer jerseys will receive free admission into DeMartin Field for tonight’s game. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m.
