The skramz band Orchid — or “real emo” as defined by the infamous copypasta —, while short lived, produced some of the most raw and chaotic songs of the genre. Orchid’s style of poetism and melodic guitar lines mixed with shrieked lyrics and frenzied outbursts create a perfect candidate for one of Impact’s spooky jams of the day.
“I can’t fathom why you are the one that had to die for me /
And now you’re the one who left, the one who died, the one who tried /
I swear to god I will love you forever /
About it all, about it all, it’s all my fault, it’s all my fault.”
“…And The Cat Turned To Smoke” is from Orchid’s dark side, with topics of death, regret and grievance. Lead vocalist Jayson Green blasts into the song with lyrics about a dying relationship before the song goes into a droning, cathartic interlude. Only then for the song to jump back into crazed thrashing, where Green wails about the death of his love, of words left unsaid and of a life unfit for living after such loss.
The grinding wall of noise which is Orchid can only be described as the wail of a banshee. This song, and the album it’s on, create an atmosphere for a horrifying and hair-raising fall.
