EAST LANSING – Michigan State University has officially fired head football coach Mel Tucker, the school announced on Wednesday.
Tucker, who has been under Title IX investigation by the university for sexual harassment, was let go after starting his fourth season as MSU head coach.
“I write on behalf of the University to terminate the Amended Employment Agreement, dated November 24, 2021,” Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller said in a press release.
Due to Tucker’s firing, the NCAA transfer portal will open up for 30 days, allowing MSU football players to leave the program if they choose.
Michigan State does not plan to pay the remaining $80 million left on Mel Tucker’s contract.
In his tenure, Tucker amassed a 20-14 record in a four-year period at MSU, including an 11-2 record and a Peach Bowl victory in 2021.
