I Said Maybae | “Maybae Baeby” by Xiu Xiu

Ethan Bernier, Host of The Fuzz

“Maybae Baeby” is a tremendous return to form for Xiu Xiu. With Xiu Xiu having such a large body of work, it’s quite easy to see how their sound has morphed with time. For the better part of the last decade we have seen their experimental sound accumulate more pop influences with each release, most notably on FORGET, their 2017 album.

But the intensely dark and dissonant sound that once defined them has returned in a much more menacing form. What was once understated and partly subdued is now massive and all-consuming. If this single is anything to go off of, there is a lot to look forward to from Xiu Xiu and their newest member, David Kendrick — formerly of Sparks and Devo.

Xiu Xiu’s new album, Ignore Grief, comes out March 3.
