The Starbucks at Grand River and Stoddard has joined the Lake Lansing location in being the first two locations of the coffee giant in the Greater-Lansing area to file for a union election.

The Lake Lansing Starbucks had a formal hearing conducted in front of a hearing officer from the Detroit office of the National Labor Relations Board, or NLRB.

Barista Grace Norris said she was also reading her employee handbook trying to find rules that the workers were not aware of.

She also does not think that it is likely to happen but she calls it an “ever-present boogeyman” in the store.

“I don’t worry about too many things,” Norris said. “But there’s definitely baristas who are worried about retaliation.”
